Preparation, guidance, practical tips

For teachers

Preparation is deliberately minimal. Every session arrives ready to teach, with guidance notes for the moments that get delicate.

PREP

What you need before a session

  • A lesson plan, provided for every activity
  • Basic classroom materials — paper, markers, a projector
  • About 60 minutes of regular class time
  • Homeroom, advisory or tutor time — no subject loses hours
Practical tips

The moments that need care

Running this well takes flexibility, sensitivity and an encouraging approach. Guidance notes accompany every activity.

Handling sensitive topics

Identity work surfaces real experiences. Set the ground rules before you begin, let students opt out of sharing without explaining why, and never make an example of a student's answer.

Encouraging active participation

Quiet students are often the ones the activity is for. Written or paired responses before whole-class discussion give everyone a way in.

De-escalating disruption

Through sincerity and accountability rather than sanctions. Name what happened, ask what was meant by it, and return to the agreement the class made together.

If something serious comes up

Route it through your school's existing safeguarding procedures. This campaign is not a substitute for them, and the guidance notes say so explicitly.

For staff

What you get out of it

Teenagers collaborating over notebooks and laptops Classroom

A more engaged classroom

Students practise taking risks and voicing their opinions, which gives them and their peers opportunities to set boundaries and makes the class feel safer to engage in.

Secondary-school students working together in class Connection

Stronger connections

Built through conversations with students that would not otherwise happen in a school day.

Professional growth

From leading work that sits at the centre of inclusive practice, and improves school morale with it.
